The Whales are here

It has been a slow start! Recently conversations have centered around theories on global warming; when ‘they’ (whales) arrived last year and are ‘they’ (whales) influenced by the weather. With no definite answers being able to given and much of these creatures’ habits unknown we all sat anticipating their arrival but one thing is for sure- there is something about Hermanus that brings them back year after year.

So they are here, and we are more than exhilarated to welcome them back.

Over the past two days, boat based whale watching has been great- with breaches just off the bow and stern of the boat, along with a trip or two that have been lucky enough to see all 3 of the species in the bay at this time of the year: the arriving Southern Right Whale; the migrating Humpback whale and the resident Brydes whale.

Never mind the whales the marine life in the area have kept us entertained with African Fur seal stealing the show. All in all could winter in South Africa deliver more!
