As part of Southern Right Charters’ educational & community development programme Southern Right Charters has teamed up with the Whale Coast Conservation.

“The weather was great, the boat is amazing and we felt very safe in it. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The educators had a chance to discuss how to use the trips for educational purposes and we could apply the recent workshop material very well. – Sheraine van Wyk. Eco-learning Manager

Environmental education is one of the four focuses of the Whale Coast Conservation Organisation.

The Eco-Schools Programme was adopted as the starting point primarily as it operates in schools, is fully endorsed by the Department of Education and is curriculum aligned.

Earlier this year, a group of learners from Hermanus Christian Academy enjoyed a complimentary whale watching trip on the 27th of July, 2011.

The trip served as a practical study from which the students could observe and record their findings in order to complete their marine scientific research task. The result of this tour has formed the basis for future educational outings and marine research that will be done by Eco-schools in collaboration with Southern Right Charters.

And last week we invited educators from various schools for a complimentary whale watching trip to establish and develop a hypothesis which can be applied and tested by learners going on a whale watching field trip in the future.
