The Only Eco-Marine Festival in the world!

The Hermanus Whale Festival 2024 is set to be an exciting and vibrant celebration, marking its 32nd year as the oldest and biggest festival on the Cape Whale Coast. Scheduled for 27 to 29 September , the festival honours the annual migration of the Southern Right Whales to the shores of Hermanus, creating a unique blend of marine conservation, family fun, and cultural events. Take a look at some of the key events and attractions happening over the weekend, so you don’t miss a minute of the action.

Key attractions and events to look forward to:

1. Whale Watching

The festival’s highlight is, of course, the Southern Right Whales. Visitors can enjoy spectacular whale watching from various points along the coast, including the famous Hermanus Cliff Path. For a closer encounter, guided boat tours with Southern Right Charters are available, offering an unforgettable experience with these majestic creatures.

2. Marine Conservation Expo

This educational expo features interactive exhibits, informative talks by marine biologists, and hands-on activities for all ages. It aims to raise awareness about marine life and ocean conservation, aligning with the festival’s eco-marine theme. Various exhibitions in the Eco-Marine Marquee aim to involve local people and future conservationists to learn and explore through interaction with product owners, scientists and researchers about their conservation-related products. Cape Nature, Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens, the Mammal Research Institute and more will have displays to look forward to.

3. Arts and Crafts Market:

One of the highlights of the weekend-long festival, the market showcases local artisans, offering a range of handmade items such as jewellery, pottery, and textiles.
