The accreditation process is thorough covering excellence in various criteria such as Environmental Education, Responsible Tourism, Environmental Management, Safety & Services and Social Responsibility.
Blue Flag is an annual award and has become an international symbol of quality for beaches, sustainable boating and marinas that meet a standard of excellence in various areas. Blue Flag in South Africa is locally managed by WESSA since 2001 in partnership with participating coastal municipalities.
