Boat based whale watching trips, hermanus
We meet at our booking office, ‘the Whale Shack’, 30min prior to departure.
Guests are told about the trip and what they can expect plus some interesting whale information. We then embark from our ‘private floating jetty’, built to enable our guests to embark and disembark safely and with ease. Once all seated we depart from the hermanus harbour to visit the whales and other marine creatures along the way.
A qualified whale specialist guide is on board to relate interesting facts and answer any questions en route. We usually encounter seals, penguins, marine birds, southern right whales and often see the bryde’s whale, dolphins and humpback whale at certain times of the year.
Our permit entitles us to approach the whales up to 50m and then we stop and the decision is left entirely to the whales. Being curious they normally approach the boat and often come right up to our boat. It really is an experience to be treasured.
DURATION
A trip can be anything from 1H30M to 3 HRS, although it is normally
about 2HRS. The duration of the trip depends entirely on how far we have
to travel to the whales, once there, we are permitted to spend 20mins
with each pod of whales.

Bay Cruise
A scenic, seaside perspective of the Hermanus and Onrus coastline with
possible sightings of dolphins, penguins, seals, marine birds and
Bryde’s whales. Refreshments available from our on board bar and galley.
Duration: 1 hour
Sundowner Cruise
Hug the coastline and see Hermanus and environs from a different
perspective. Watch the sun sink into the ocean as you sip your
sundowners. Refreshments provided from our on board bar and galley.
Departures: 18:00 daily.
Duration: 90 mins
